Design of Power Electronic Systems

Subject

Based on given specifications, the design of a complete power electronic system is explained. This includes explanations related to the selection or design of suitable passive power components under consideration of specific properties, e.g., parasitic components, tolerances, high frequency losses, temperature effects. In the context of passive components, a special focus of the lecture is on magnetic components, due to their importance in power electronic circuits. Furthermore, the static and dynamic properties of power semiconductors are considered in detail. Subsequently, methods for designing an EMI filter and a cooling system are explained. Finally, additional circuits (e.g. gate driver circuits, measurement circuits), general processes (e.g. start-up of the converter), and the optimization of a power converter are presented.
